It seems that my newest addiction, Pinterest, has become one of my biggest time wasters! I have found that instead of doing laundry, returning emails, studying, cleaning, or doing any number of the things that I actually need to do once the twins finally fall asleep at night, I sit on the sofa and pin for hours and hours on end. I can't figure out what is so addicting about the act of pinning links to pictures of clothes that I can't fit into or afford, vacations spots that I can only dream about, home furnishings for houses that I will never live in, puppies and kittens that I do not need, and quotes that I will never read again, but there is something very gratifying about pinning! It is almost like shopping, without having to find a place to hide the impulse buy from my husband.
So, today I decided that I was either going to have to stop wasting hours pinning....or....I would actually have to find a way to make those hours more valuable. What I decided was that from now on I will try to put one of the things that I pin to use every week. I will either make a craft, try a recipe, choose a quote to live by (for at least a few days), do some exercising, buy something off of my want/need list, or travel to one of those exotic places (the last 3 of these things are very unlikely, but I can dream, right?).
Cake Batter Pancakes
My 1st attempt at making my hours on pinterest count was making cake batter pancakes for the twins. This evening my nanny, Emily, and I went to my pins, clicked on the picture of the yummy looking cake batter pancakes, followed every step on the recipe and pictured above is our masterpiece....
Our review:
- To start with, we are not as artistic as the people who posted this recipe, so our pancakes aren't quite as pretty.
- The recipe was really easy to follow and it only took about 20 minutes to make them from start to finish.
- So how did they taste?
- Emily said that they "tasted like flour."
- I loved the drizzle, but the pancakes did taste a little like the dough that you would find around pigs in a blanket.
- The twins didn't eat them, but they rarely sit still long enough to eat anything in the evening.
- Clean up was really easy & we had some drizzle and batter left over, so Brian can make them again for breakfast....(maybe)
- The wedding cake vodka that Brian brought home to go with our dessert themed breakfast for dinner was AMAZING!
Some things we would do differently:
- We decided that next time we will try using half pancake mix and half cake mix, instead of flour.
- We also think that it might be fun to figure out a way to using icing as a drizzle.
- Next time we will probably try using a flavored cake mix (double chocolate, or strawberry...).
What did we learn from this Pinteresting Attempt?
1) We learned that trying new recipes is a blast. We will definitely be doing this more often!
2) Pinterest is not a complete waste of time...if you actually try to bring some of your pins to reality!
3) We also learned that we LOVE wedding cake vodka.
-Maybe we should get another bottle of the wedding cake vodka and try mixing it with just about everything...
In conclusion: Bringing Pins to life is a blast. Emily & I can't wait to start on our next Pinteresting little project (right after we finish this bottle of Pearl).....
Love the blog and will link to it on mine! Just a note about Pinterest. One of my neighbors posted this article (http://www.knoed.com/thewindowseat/pinterest-change-your-terms-or-were-leaving/) and it scares me to death. I'm considering deleting my account, but don't want to be reactionary about it.
